EUTW: Long Lost Life (Part 7!)

“Repeat after me. One, two, three, four, four, one, three, two.”

“One, two, three, four, four, one, three, two.”

“Good. Now, what’s your name?”

“It does not matter.”

“Purpose?”

“To find and kill Gale Windsong.”

Satisfied, Myreia inched away from the person’s blank face.

She chuckled.

"Good. I believe you're ready, my dearest Fawn."

Nela shifted on the floor and let out a groan, standing up from the floor. She was confused as to what had happened– where was she now? What had happened with the others? – but decided to follow the tunnel down.

“Hello?”

Her voice banged down the tunnel. No response.

Nela rolled her eyes and looked up from where she fell, and tried to figure out what way she could climb right back up there.

There was a scream from above.

Nela’s eyes opened– that definitely wasn’t coming from a band of okay people. Something was wrong. The golden haired teen kicked the wall in frustration. She hated not helping her friends, even if they just met.

“Are you guys okay?” She yelled, but the echo was too strong for her voice to be made out clearly. Apparently there was an extremely strong wind coming outside.

Crap. What do I do now-?

“Oh my, what’s an Elemental like you doing down here?” a silky voice whispered behind her. Nela immediately lifted up her arms, ready for combat at any moment. 

The person in question was a long chestnut brown haired woman with bright chocolate brown eyes. Nela was surprised to see that her eyes had gold weaved through them– it was the signature look of a Light user. They twirled a curled silver dagger around their fingers, smiled lightly, then disappeared.

Nela backed up into a wall, squinting for a hint of movement. She knew from experience that it was harder to get snuck up on if her back was pressed onto something.

Suddenly, she was smashed backwards by some unseen force, crashing through the wall and landing into a sewer. She spat out blood, having bit her tongue during the crash. Nela knew she would have to move, but something wasn’t letting her, resulting in the water slowly rising into her nose and mouth.

Nela rolled her eyes up to the ceiling, then bit the inside of her mouth so hard she could taste blood again– adding to her tongue injury– and finally was able to get up, coughing out the water she almost swallowed. Her hands lit up with Light.

“Who are you? Show yourself.” She demanded, ignoring the searing pain in her joints and mouth, instead focusing on examining her surroundings.

“Oh, that isn’t necessary, but I will out of respect.” crooned the voice. The mysterious woman reappeared again, twirling her tool in her hands and walking closer. Nela tensed and turned around slightly– now they could see that the woman more clearer, the golden haired teen could see multiple daggers on this person.

“I suggest you run now. Nela. Just a suggestion…” she laughed, as if this was extremely funny, then lunged forwards. Panicked, Nela began running too, almost slipping on the water, which came right up to her ankles. The woman was chasing her. 

How does she know my name? Why is she following me? What is going on? Am I being pursued to become an experiment?

Nela gasped as she slipped and fell, making her clothes even more wet and stopping her right in her tracks. She desperately clawed at the water, trying to get up, but it was no use. The woman had caught up to her. And she hadn’t even broken a sweat.

“Tag,” Nela heard as she took a blow to the head and fainted, “you’re it.”

Gale sighed. He couldn’t just stay here, but Flint didn’t look like he was going to move anytime soon. 

“Flint. We can’t stay here.”

He was met with silence. Absolute cold, dead silence.

“Flint.”

Nothing. 

The Wind elemental was now annoyed. So this is what the Fire Elemental was deciding to do? Giving him the silent treatment? He wasn’t the one who had killed his sister!

“FLINT! WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?”

“What do you want?!”

Well at least he responded, griped Gale in his mind as he stared at the hunched over redheaded figure. 

“We can’t stay here, Flint. We’re in danger of more attacks.”

“So?”

Gale exhaled in frustration. He had a few choice words that he really wanted to say to this idiot right now, but he decided to bottle those feelings and try and be understanding to this Fire elemental. Being an only child, he didn’t have much experience.

“Look, I know you’re upset, but we need to get out of here, now–”

“What do you know? My sister just died, you dolt!” Flint spat out bitterly, the grass around him catching on fire, ironic considering his sister’s powers. 

“I know! I saw it happen! But please– we need to go, right now–”

“YOU DON’T KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO LOSE A SIBLING, YOU UNFEELING JERK!” He roared, sending sparks flying everywhere without warning.

Gale couldn’t tolerate how uncooperative Flint was anymore, and finally fought back, wind ferociously whipping at the boys’ hair.

“I LOST THREE OF MY TEAMMATES WITHOUT WARNING! TWO OF THEM, INCLUDING THE ONE THAT WAS LIKE MY OLDER SISTER! I’VE BEEN WITH THEM FOR OVER TEN YEARS, LIVED WITH THEM, AND WE WERE ALL LIKE FAMILY! BUT DO YOU SEE ME WHINING ABOUT IT AND BEING UNCOOPERATIVE? NO, BECAUSE I WANT TO RESOLVE THIS WAR FIRST! I’M PUTTING THE LIVES OF EVERYONE IN CHIKYU FIRST!”

The other boy was silent.

One part of Gale wished he could take back the words that he just screamed out, but the other part thought Flint deserved it. The other part vanished when Flint dropped his head into his hands and began sobbing, the flames extinguishing immediately. Gale stopped the wind and walked over, taking deep breaths to calm himself, and sat down next to the crying Flint.

“Flint. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t ha–”

The latter waved his hand, cutting Gale off. He raised his head off his hands a little.

“Don’t be. I-it’s not your f-fault-” 

He couldn’t finish his sentence, as Flint began crying again.

Gale felt sorry for the other as they kept on wailing. He didn’t know what to do– he was rather inexperienced in helping others feel better. The black haired teen tried to imagine what Phoenix would do if he was like this. 

He placed his arms around Flint, so that they were awkwardly hugging. The redhead, surprised, took a few inhales, sniffled slightly, and croaked out “What are y-you doing?”

Gale shrugged.

“Hey, you aren’t crying anymore.”

Flint offered the other a slight smile.

“I guess so.”

“I’m sorry again for what I said. I know it’s hard losing her.” Gale stared at the branches where Myreia had vanished, wishing he was a Timebender.

“Honestly, I think I actually needed that.” Flint commented, wiping away stray tears left on his face and not moving from the hug, still.

Gale chuckled.

“Well, we’re going now?”

The red head nodded.

“I’m going to find the bastards who took my precious sister and scorch them till there’s nothing left.”

Stop. The girl is dead. You can’t make her miraculously come back to life.

“Oh, you just wait and see~! I’ve recently figured out a way to activate turning time back– but just on one person!”

What? Impossible.

“I did~”

Show me.

“Alright! Wakey wakey now, Fawn~!”

“...”

“...”

“...”

“...where am I. Who are you.”

“That doesn’t matter, sweetie! What matters is how useful you’ll be to us~”

“What? What are you– stay away. I won’t hesitate to– NO! NO! GET AWAY, GET AWAY!”

“Nighty nighty, cutie. Sweet dreams~!”

“SOMEONE! HELP! FLINT! FLI–”

“...”

“......”

What is wrong with her? Is the time reverse not working?

“I’m controlling her mind now, dearest. Now she’ll only obey us.”

Fawn’s world faded away for the second time.
