That's the thing about this city. Within the realms of going into the setting of coffee shops, urban getaways, and forgetting what the rural life is back at your childhood home. Forging into this setting makes you think about how one place can be so busy, yet so elegant. The sights of Boston arouses your vision about what your life is going to be like now that you've landed your dream job here. You think about how much money you've saved so you can get one of those elegant apartments to go with the atmosphere of this city.
While others dream about the big things that they want to happen in their future, you think about the little things that make people say “Explain more.” Others don’t know what they want to do with their life after high school. Some may want to start their own business that’ll make enough for a living, and doing what they love at the same time. Others know deep in their hearts that they want to go to college and get a degree, But different branches of that concept come within the outcome: graduating and moving on. But some of the branches follow their passion and succeed while doing it, others follow their passion but end up not using their degree in a well paid job. But all you want to do is live in the city, because that setting comforts you and also leaves you in awe at the same time. But living in the city can be really expensive, so you get a degree in college that’ll have you making bank.
Others may ask, “Yeah the job that you want to do makes a great income, but what if you’re not happy with it?” I’ll just reply back to them “Yeah, I may not think my job is fun, but once my day is over, I can look over and see the beauty in my city and think about all of the elegant coffee shops that await me.” Weird concept, I know. But I love being weird, because me being weird is making me happy.
Now, when it comes to people in the city, some of you may be asking “What if you’re unable to meet a lot of people because isn’t the city mostly people just coming and going?” I like that ambience though. For some reason, I find that introverts love the city. Introverts come forth about having to recharge after a long day of hardwork. When they get out of their day of work, they want to just stay in solitude. Walking past other people and not wanting to talk to them, just like them. You go upstairs in your apartment, and you look out your window to see all the buildings lit up and see the colors in the sky blending within it’s enlightenment. You take out your book and make a cup of hot chai tea, as you sip away and escape into another fantasy world of Hogwarts. While in that fantasy world, you shake with excitement of going to your local favorite coffee shop and smell the amazing grounds that awake the fresh air.
Morning comes, yes, you guessed it. Running to that coffee shop on this fine Friday morning. You put on your coat because this is Boston, it can be as cold as can be in the winter and once spring hit, it’s nice for a while until the summer heat comes in when it’s not even summer. You grab all of your stuff, but back in that mind, you’re saying “But first, I need that amazing coffee, my workday cannot be started unless I have that cup of goodness.” You leave your apartment. Also, side note, this is wicked early in the morning, your shift doesn’t start until three hours till now but you woke up because of that shop. You walk down the street in the north end and you enter this coffee shop.
Yes, you have entered another fantasy world. There are pastries from left and right. There are different types of people there: some of them are in a huge morning rush, some of them take their coffee and their laptop to start writing their stories, not realizing it’s been five hours. And others sit down with their friends and drink about five coffees in a row. But you wait in line, and when it finally came your turn, they immediately know who you are. You know why? You go there every single morning, period. It doesn’t matter if you’re wicked busy during the day, or this is your lazy day. Either way, you are getting that deliciousness. You have that cup of coffee in your hand, and you sit down at a table. You pull out a book and you start reading away. You occasionally look up and say to yourself “I’m so glad I live here. After all the hard work I’ve done and all the money I saved, I made it to my hometown.” You love how when the sun rises, the city lights harmonize the colors in the sky. But for some reason, the people walking on the sidewalks and cars going by kind of calms you in a way. Other people might find it a little crazy, but don’t worry, you’re used to it by now. You walk to your workplace and work until your shift ends on a Friday night. You remember that it’s the weekend and you walk around the city to meet up with some of your friends. You go to one of the many restaurants and it feels so satisfying.
That’s the thing about this city. People can be either going to thos elegant coffee shops or going to Dunkin Donuts to get a medium iced caramel coffee. Either way, people are coming and going in Boston. You have to check the weather everyday but in the end, you appreciate the surroundings of it. Boston is neither big nor small. It’s between.
