It was the summer of 1999. When my parents gave me the news I was beyond excited. I was finally moving schools and away from Beverly Hills. My last two years going to Beverly Hills High school felt like an eternity. I had always felt like I did not belong here in Los Angeles, I was more of a country girl than a city girl. I concluded in my time going to Beverly. Going there felt like those movies that you see on tv. You know, the ones where there is always that group of popular kids with the jocks and their constantly glammed up girlfriends. The ones that drive around in those yearly BMW’s that their dad most likely got them. I’m telling you, everyone at Beverly seemed like those rich kids that you see on those teenage drama movies. The neighborhood I lived in was similar to those you see in those movies also. It was like those that picture just how lavish and impeccable it is to live in Beverly Hills. The ones that embody the long swaying palm trees, the pillared houses, not to mention the friendly neighbors walking their dogs.
I was never one to judge but I did observe. Living in Beverly Hills was bittersweet to me but It was not my cup of tea. When my parents told me that we were moving to the country and that I would be going to a high school that was not like Beverly Hills, I was more than thrilled. I was ready to get away from city life and the feeling of living in teenage Hollywood movies.
On the drive to our new home, I saw many endless views of meadows and it seemed like the more we drove the more excited I got. I was more than ready for the country life, starting at a new high school, and most importantly the overall change of everything.
We arrived at our new home and it was everything I expected. It was like that perfect ranch style home with the white picket fence that you see in those old school love story films but this was a completely different sensation than that of Beverly Hills. We entered the house and started to unpack everything. I began with our kitchenware and was taking out all of the plates we carried. My mother was a dishware connoisseur. She always enjoyed collecting china and was the boss of always having the best dishware. After about an hour, I finished stacking the dishes in the cabinets and filled each slot and section with a plate. There was still one box filled with plates but there was no more room for them in the kitchen so my mother told me to store them down in the basement. This was the first time I was going down there and as I went down the stairs I missed a step and went flying to the ground of the basement. The dishes I carried shattered all over the gray concrete floor. I hit my head so hard on the metal rail of stairs that the pain seemed to shake out through the rest of my body. As I lay on the floor a rush of anxiety scrambled through my entire body as I continued to watch the dishware crack into pieces. My mom was going to be so upset I didn't even know how to approach her and tell her I had broken some of her collection. I also wondered why my parents had not checked up on me but I assumed they were outside and didn’t hear me fall. So many thoughts were going on in my head at that moment but something bright purple in the far distance caught my attention and instantly stopped these thoughts. As I got up and walked closer to the bright violet light that was shining I noticed it seemed like a gateway to another place. It reminded me of a magic portal but I knew those only happened in fairy tales and fiction stories. But as I got closer and stood in front of the light, a two-door entrance appeared, and it opened. I was so intrigued by the darkness and mysteriousness of the entrance so I stepped in. When I did it was dark for a second and BOOM. I began to float around in circles and all around me I saw mesmerizing swirls of vibrant colors. It was something unreal yet so real. I felt a huge pressure on me and I began to float in circles faster, and faster until I reached the point where I could no longer withstand the rapid movement so I yelled as great as I could. Suddenly, everything stopped and I was laying on the ground surrounded by a green forest. I was surrounded by a variety of running characters. They were dressed in jungle suits with weapon belts across their waists and they were like those you see in video games. They seemed to be in action and were running away from something. Everyone was running and as I looked towards the direction that everyone was running away from. I saw a huge monstrous gorilla coming towards all the characters. I jumped up so fast and started to run for my life. I ran so fast but not fast enough to keep up with the other hunters and ultimately, I stumbled across a rock. I was left behind by the other hunters and the humongous black gorilla came towards me. I tried to get up but it was too late. I was picked up by the powerful hands of the monster and I listened to the ear-wrenching scorch he made as he threw me from what seemed miles away. I landed on the ground of what seemed another similar place to the first. It was surrounded by endless trees and branches. I heard something beep and I looked down at the weapons I had around my waist. There was a small detector that was labeled existence and it marked three out of four. At that moment I knew to enter that portal the gateway was a video game that I took out of curiosity. But now, I had to fight and that was the only way to survive.
