It’s for you Mother: A Poem 

I was worried, 

Scared, 

Petrified, 

Didn't know, 

How to do this, 

When to do this, 

But now, 

I know 

Yes,  

I was,  

An amateur, 

A beginner, 

A starter, 

Just learning, 

The feel,  

Of all of it 

I stared, 

Or I remember, 

Staring, 

In disbelief, 

When I saw, 

Who I was, 

Who I really am 

Well, 

That, 

Doesn't mean, 

That I am still, 

Convinced right now, 

No, 

No

I still, 

Cannot believe this, 

I really cannot, 

I am not lying, 

I swear, 

I still cannot, 

Process all of this, 

Information about, 

Myself 

Don’t believe me? 

Ha!  

I’ll show you, 

I’ll make sure you do! 

As 

I am writing, 

This, 

My hands are shaking 

My fingers are trembling, 

Each,  

And every word, 

I am writing, 

Oh, I am writing, 

In shock 

Who knew 

That I, 

The looser, 

Could ever be talented, 

In writing a poem! 

Who knew, 

That I, 

The Chicken, 

Of the entire school, 

Many years ago though, 

Could become a poet, 

In the future? 

Why this, 

At this exact moment, 

Was my dream, 

My aim, 

My ambition, 

My goal, 

My wish, 

My hope, 

All along 

I’ve dreamed, 

Of this moment, 

Occurring, 

For many, 

Many years, 

Why yes, I have! 

I really have, 

Not kidding 

Since the day, 

I was born, 

Since the time, 

I could breathe the air, 

Open my eyes, 

To see my mother,  

Softly chuckling, 

As she was playing with me 

Since the day, 

I started to crawl, 

When I learned, 

How to pick up, 

My stuffed bear, 

And love him, 

As much as I do my mom 

Since the day, 

I learned to say, 

My first word, 

Make my tongue, 

Make my mouth, 

Move the way, 

The word was supposed, 

To be pronounced 

If you are, 

Wondering, 

That word was, 

“Mama” 

Anyways... 

Since the day, 

My lovely, 

And a beautiful mother, 

Tried to teach me how  

To stand, 

On my two, 

Wobbling feet, 

Was the day she learned, 

Something about me 

I cannot stand, 

Nor can I, 

Walk 

Yes, 

From that day, 

Onward, 

It was one hospital, 

Trip, 

After another 

My mother, 

She was telling me, 

Showing me, 

How to stand, 

But, 

I just, 

Couldn't do it 

I’m sorry 

Mom, 

Who was a single parent, 

Well, after my father, 

Had died for serving in the military, 

She was taking care of me, 

All by herself 

I didn’t have a grandmother, 

Maybe that’s really not how I should phrase this 

I have never met my grandmother,  

There, that’s much better 

Anyways... 

My grandmother had died because, 

Of childbirth 

She was having her sixth daughter, 

When she, 

And her unborn daughter, 

Passed away, 

Together, 

Forever 

Since then, 

My mother, 

Who was the eldest, 

Of the five children, 

Looked after them, 

Even when her father, 

Died later because, 

Of cancer 

She has always, 

Been responsible, 

Knew, 

How to get things, 

Done 

She was bold, 

Brave, 

Smart, 

And, 

Amazing 

She was the best, 

Any mother, 

Could have ever, 

Been 

She was my inspiration, 

My ambition, 

My role-model, 

And my entire world, 

And she still is 

When she, 

Was alone, 

When taking care of me, 

That time, 

She was afraid, 

Scared, 

Not knowing what was wrong with her little boy 

She panicked, 

Was petrified, 

Worried, 

And was in dismay 

Her worried screams, 

Still echoes through my ears, 

Even after, 

All this time 

I could sometimes, 

In my nightmares, 

Remember her screams, 

Her wails, 

MY BOY!! Wha—why can’t he stand? He is the only reason for living in this dark world! 

I recollected, 

Her sadness, 

And couldn’t help, 

But also cry, 

Not for me, 

But for, 

My hard-working, 

Stupendous, 

And gorgeous, 

Mother, 

If she were here 

When, 

She saw, 

That I couldn’t walk, 

She ran to the hospital, 

Holding—no carrying me in one hand, 

My food on the other, 

As she started, 

Screaming for “Taxi!” 

After calling, 

For several minutes, 

She decided, 

To run to the hospital, 

She knew the way, 

She didn’t need a taxi, 

She could by herself, 

She was a hero, 

Was strong 

After she reached, 

She told the doctor, 

All about what had happened, 

Back at home, 

With still, 

A nervous, 

Panicked, 

And an anxious look, 

On her face 

My one-year-old self, 

Wanted to comfort her, 

Tell her it’s ok, 

But I just couldn’t do that 

The doctor asked my mother, 

To come inside, 

As he did his tests, 

And scanned, 

My body 

I remember, 

Him breaking, 

The sad news

I couldn’t walk, 

This wasn’t curable, 

And for my whole life, 

I had to have, 

A wheelchair 

She was devastated, 

After hearing, 

His words 

As if, 

Each word, 

Was pricking her, 

And almost poking, 

Her heart out 

She, 

Had fainted, 

Passed out, 

After hearing this, 

But after the doctor, 

Gave her some food, 

He told her, 

It’s going to be fine, your son will have a good future, trust me 

Of course, 

She still, 

Wasn't quite happy, 

But couldn’t do anything, 

But nod her head, 

As she picked me up, 

Carrying me on one shoulder, 

And my food, 

On the other 

My love, 

I love you, 

The way you are, 

And don’t... 

Look at me, my child, not your food,

I repeat, 

Don't, 

Let anyone, 

Bring you down

And if someone does, 

Just remember, 

You are unique, 

You are special, 

And if it feels, 

If you ever think, 

That you are not cared, 

Not loved, 

That you don’t matter, 

Think again

For I, 

Love you, my child, 

Please do, 

Remember that, 

My boy 

Ever since, 

That day, 

That fateful trip, 

From the hospital, 

She decided, 

To read me poems, 

But not just anyone’s, 

But her’s 

She needed money, 

to look after, 

Her only child, 

Her only boy 

She wrote poems, 

And made sure, 

That after I heard her poems, 

She would contact publishers, 

To publish her poem 

So, 

Thinking back, 

At all the things, 

My mother has done, 

To raise me, 

To help me become, 

A gentleman, 

For me, 

To have a good future, 

It was only reasonable, 

That I follow your footsteps, 

Dear Mother 

I hope, 

That you will, 

Rest in peace
