"ROSE, STOP PLAYING WITH THE LIGHTS!" Jordan screamed.
"I'm not playing with anything; the power's out," Rose replied.
"Huh?"
"Yeah, turn it on yourself if you really think I'm a liar."
Jordan rolled his eyes and got up from his seat. Unlike his sister, he couldn't see very well in darkness and almost broke his leg getting to the light switch.
He flicked it on. Nothing.
"Believe me now, Jordan?"
"Fine, I believe you. What are we going to do now?"
"Wait, what else?"
"We have to do something productive!"
"What? Do you want to try fixing the lights?"
"No, Rose! Ugh. We have to get some flashlights, stay in one place, and do something useful. Like reading."
Rose rolled her eyes, "You can do that yourself, but I'm going outside."
"This girl lost it today," Jordan thought, "In complete darkness?"
"Yes?"
"Don't be idiotic! You'll die out there!"
"Actually, you'll die out there. I've survived millions of times in complete darkness."
"Fine, I'm not responsible if you die."
"Don't be."
Rose dragged on her coat(how did she even find it?) and walked out the door. When it slammed behind her, Jordan leaped up.
Luckily, he found a flashlight in a few minutes. There was one lying around in his 'Random Useful Stuff' collection. Rose called it junk.
Jordan and Rose Bell are siblings. They live on the 5th floor of Harts Apartments in a random city somewhere on the east coast of the United States. Jordan saw the city as an amazing opportunity to get multiple degrees and a good job. Rose saw living in the city as more chances to do crazy things and never get caught.
Jordan's two years older than Rose. He's the more responsible sibling. He goes to Brooks High and is one of those kids the teachers love. He scores 90's left and right, never cuts class, shows his ID at lunch, and has never seen himself in the principal's office. He's been to the secretary's room a few times, but only for his mom to pick him up for dentist appointments.
Rose is the exact opposite. She's a popular kid. Instead of 90s, she's given 70s. Rose doesn't give a fuck, unlike Jordan who'd have a panic attack right on the spot. She's dyed her hair this crazy shade of blue, which burns everyone's eyes. Mrs. Allison, the principal, can't even count how many times Rose has been suspended. Her parents consider it a gift that their daughter isn't so screwed that she ended up in jail. Unfortunately for them, if she wasn't such a fast runner, that's exactly where Rose Bell would be.
Don't ask what she did, the narrator doesn't know either. She searched all she could in the script, but couldn't find anything. And now she's completely off task and is asking for garlic bread.
[Insert Blooper Effect Here]
So, how do these two get along?
Fun Fact: They don't.
So, right now, Rose found some of her friends, and they're deciding who's life to ruin.
Jordan found a flashlight(as mentioned earlier) and is studying as if his life depended on it.
We'll start with Jordan. He's studying Science. It's something about how iron rusts due to a chemical reaction called oxidation. The lamp is right next to him. Jordan's sweating, although his class didn't even start this topic. They won't in two weeks. Jordan doesn't care.
"It's always better to know things ahead of time!" he said when his dad pointed it out. Mr. Bell rolled his eyes but didn't comment.
"Let the boy do what he wants. He's a good student," Mrs. Bell announced from the kitchen, "And Harry, where the hell is Rose? I told that girl to wash the dishes!"
So, that's Jordan.
Rose and her friends couldn't think of anything and decided to play spin the bottle instead. Layla brought the beer, and Rose swallowed beer after beer, beer after beer. She even shoved a bottle of whiskey down her throat back in seventh grade.
It was around midnight when Rose stumbled back home.
"Hi," said Jordan.
"Hi," Rose replied.
Rose decided to take a shower in the bathroom. It works. The plumbing and electricity systems are both different things. The only problem is, there's no hot water. That doesn't bother Rose. That would kill Jordan, but no one asked him. Around the time when Rose was mid-way into her shower, Jordan decided that he studied enough for a day, and fell asleep.
The next day, Rose(she's sober now, don't worry) flipped on the light switch.
"Nope, it's still out," she informed Jordan.
"C'mon, how long is it going to stay out? I need to take a shower!"
"Take it now, then!" Rose gestured towards the bathroom door.
"No way! There's no hot water!"
"Okay, suit yourself. I'm going to find something to do."
Jordan watched the bathroom door like an enemy that would eat him up.
"Oh my god, Jordan! Just go do something!" Rose moaned.
"How are you fine with showering in the dark?" Jordan responded.
"Okay, I was drunk yesterday. Other than that, it's just a shower. It's not going to kill us or anything. Now go in or leave."
Jordan thought about it. He wasn't about to look like a scardey-cat in front of his sister. At the same time, he was scared of the dark. Nyctophobia, he called it. Rose didn't call it anything. She didn't even care.
"C'mon Jordan, it's the same old bathroom, with the same old shower," Rose wasn't whining anymore. Instead, she gawked at Jordan with a new curiosity.
Jordan peered back at her, "Are you sure?"
"I went in there drunk yesterday, and I'm still alive. Do you think there's anything in there?"
"No, I guess."
"Why don't you try going in with that lamp? It's better than showering in the dark."
"It ran out of batteries."
"Are you sure?"
"What?"
Rose dug into her jeans pocket and pulled out a pack of batteries.
"Not anymore."
Grateful, Jordan took the batteries, plugged them in, and got up to use the shower.
