Fantasy

I was walking with my sister when we passed a house. My head throbbed, as I flew into a memory. I was 17, walking past the same house with my mom, watching the houses as we passed them. All of a sudden my mom stopped. I was confused. Why were we stopping? Then I saw it. There was a tear of light. I could hear the clashing of metal. Then I raced back to the present. No! I needed that memory! My eyes fluttered open, and I was laying in bed with a cold towel draped on my forehead. My  brother and his sons were sitting beside my bed. I sat up, and they ran over to hug me. Apparently, I had passed out in the middle of our walk, and had stayed out for an hour. An hour! It barely felt like one minute! I sat on the bed while the boys went outside to fish in the creek with dad. I pictured the house we passed, and the memory restarted. A rift of light. Clashing metal, and shouts of triumph. I felt a force pulling me toward the thing. I tried to hold on to Mom, but she was getting dragged to! We flew into the rift, and got spat out in the middle of a duel! Two knights were sword fighting, metal clashing as the thrust and parried. One with a royal blue plume did a little kick spin thing, and the other one, with a ruby red plume, fell. Blue pointed his sword at Red's chest, but they both laughed, and Blue helped him up. Only then did they notice us. Red declared in a loud voice “I say! A thief and a queen! What would a woman of your stature be doing with this fiendish, but rather striking, young rogue?” Wait. Thief? Rogue? I looked at my outfit. I was wearing a black vest, a white shirt with medium length puffy sleeves, and black legging type pants. I accessorize it with a black triangle of cloth covering my mouth and nose, like a western bandit. Over the whole thing was a black cloak with grey embroidery. Mom was wearing a pretty green dress with white lace on the neck and gold details. A delicate gold crown sat on her head. She looked pretty good. I looked ready to get a horse and rob a bank in style. Blue drew his sword, and was probably about to run me through if not for a voice in the woods yelling “Stop!” A boy my age ran out. He was wearing a cream colored shirt that looked super rough, a pair of brown pants equally uncomfortable looking. He ran between me and Blue and stated “If you want to kill her, you have to go through me.” I was confused. This boy, who has literally never met me, and never spoken to me, was standing up for me? Huh. They walked over to the tree line and started a hushed conversation. Red pulled his helmet off and introduced himself as Sir Leonard the Lion Hearted. He was very loud. A few minutes later the others came over and introduced each other. Blue was actually called Sir Richard, and the boy was Reeve. Sir Richard started apologizing to me. “Very sorry my dear lady, I meant no harm befall you. (cough yeah right cough) Would you excuse my squire, Reeve. He will be punished for intruding on my affairs.” I was taken aback and begged “Oh, please don’t punish him. I should not have startled you, and he only tried to defend me. He was defending the innocent and respecting his code, like a real knight would.” I hadn’t said Richard wasn’t, but he looked a bit miffed. They led us to their camp, and said we could camp nearby. Reeve had to sleep near the fire, while Richard and Leonard slept on beds of straw with blankets. I checked my satchel, and found a few things we needed. Some food, a little water (from the future), and a few other things. I found a glade, and went looking for wood when I bumped in Reeve. I apologized and we looked for wood together while he explained where we were. It was the Dark Ages, and Reeve was training to be a knight. Sir Richard was his teacher. For a few weeks we lived in the woods, watching the men teach Reeve how to be a knight, and how to strap on armor by making him put theirs on and off. Leonard taught me how to hunt, and how to treat the water with his homemade herbal concoction. Reeve showed me all sorts of neat things, like a little brook that is so clean, you can drink from it. I loved that. It was warm too, so I took little baths every night. I never went in the water, but used my hands. It finally started to feel normal, when Reeve woke me up one night. He looked scared. He told me overhear Sir Richard telling Leonard that Reeve was a really bad squire, and how they were going to kill him. They planned a hunting trip tomorrow, and would put it down to a wild animal mauling. I was horrified. Knights were supposed to be noble and good, not horrible bullies and selfish murderers. He had to run. He asked me to come. All the days we spent laughing and all the stories he told. Then I remembered my family. I had to say no. I told him, but added this. “I can’t stay, but when I’m old enough I’ll come back.” We swore on the honor of our family to find each other. He gave me his sword. “This would be the sword I get when I’m knighted. I can tell it will reconnect our worlds too. When the time is right, go to the same spot, and summon the portal. I will wait at the spot you first appeared.” Then he kissed me and ran into the night. That day the men went out looking for Reeve, and we came back to the little meadow we first appeared in. I saw a glint in the trees, and promised myself to come back. Now, a few years later, I found the sword, put all my things in a box, and left a note. My amazing family, I have found my place. I love you all very much, but I promised myself and my friend to meet again. I may never see you, but I will never forget you

Love you with all my heart, Victoria  I snuck out to the house, and swung the sword. Where it had passed a rip opened, and familiar noises rush out. I leapt through, and saw myself in the same outfit. I heard a rustling. A familiar boy leapt down from the trees. “Hello Victoria. Long time no see.” And now I live there, with Reeve. I never grow older, and never grow up. I can live in the past, but I live in the future too.
