The Darkness This isn’t your standard love story. This story is filled with heartache and depression and feeling broken. But I guess all the best love stories contain some heartbreak. You found me when I was in a dark place. A place that I was in so deep that I couldn’t see myself ever leaving. There was no silver lining or light at the end of the tunnel for me. The darkness had consumed me. Filling me to the brim and ripping all happiness entirely from my being.I was drunk and alone. Picking fights w...
I gagged unconsciously as yet another couple's lips met. Christmas was quickly rounding the corner, and all this garbage about holiday romance and kisses under the mistletoe was finally starting to get under my skin. More than just under my skin. It was burning my insides, and my heart was right in the middle of it all. Christmas was meant to be a time of cheer and gratitude, giving and compassion. Instead all I felt was loneliness. Friends were constantly shopping, attending dates, and pushing aside all thoughts of me. I think my depress...
He ruffled his hair, brushing it to the side. The pink tips he had dyed yesterday made his soft, tan skin stand out. His green eyes sparkled in the lamp light by his mirror. "Alright I'm done" Cam stated. "Alright, come on, we don't want to be late to the show" Rachel urged, grabbing his hand. She dragged him down the polished wooden stair case of his house and out the front door. The autumn air hit them as soon as they stepped foot onto the front porch. The sky was star...
ONCE UPON XANARUS The sun was warm as Jaymel left home and started his daily trek to school. A sweet melody from nearby birds added to the pleasure already derived from the sun’s greeting and he slowed his pace to savor the moment since he was early and should have no problem arriving on time for the Premier Quadrant. &n...
Normally, the sights and smells of a race setting up would excite me to my very core. However, on this particular day, I am running very very late and I have no time to stop and take in the scene around me. It is a blur as I ran full speed down a hallway that opened to the race track. I can see an official looking around for me, clearly he was about to call me a no show and clear my gate, but I come barrelling in.
True Love Isn’t Real. That is my rule of life. If you lower your expectations you won’t get hurt. You don’t look at somebody and immediately fall in love.
February 2, 1979 Chicago, IL Gimme that night fe-verrr. Clap! We know how to show it. Clap! Twirl-two-three. Clap! Here I am, prayin’ for this moment to last... The Bee Gees sure had that right. I’d have loved for that moment to stretch out forever. It was the Semester Kickoff Party at Pi Kappa Phi, and the place was packed. Floyd Gillis, Ray Irmer, and I, centering three lines of girls, were each doing our best John Travolta - complete with silk shirts and tight jeans, perf...
I yawn as I saunter out of my house ready to tackle the day. I walk towards the bus stop and wait for my bus as I give a once over in what I have with me. I have a strenuous job as a theatre manager. Plays are a big thing in “Once Upon A Land”. The prince and princesses that reigns the countries are usually the idols the plays are based on. Their love stories are something. I don’t get it. I don’t get those butterflies erupting in the stomach moments, the time stopping moments, everything being a blur except for the person standing in fro...
Once upon a time there lived in Surya apartments a Mr Menon and his family of three daughters. He was a business man and very well off. Two of his daughters Veena and Veera were married and settled abroad. His youngest and favourite daughter Vasumathi worked in IBM and mostly worked from home. Mr Menon was busy looking for alliances for her but she said she was too busy to get married! He knew that it was because she did not want to leave him alone and go away. “But that’s life” , he had told her many times. She would just laugh it ...
Crissinda gasped. It was him, Lucas, there in the maze, the prince from her vision. The one she had fallen in love with instantly; unstoppably. As she peeped through the hedgerow again, she realized he'd drawn a woman into his arms. Locked in their passionate embrace, they neither saw nor heard her.The wind billowed around Crissinda trying to dry her tears. It steered her from the maze along a cloistered path. As she ran, she held her skirt and petticoat high. As soon as she reached the banks of Emerald Pond...
Heather heard the deep rumble of an engine behind her, the bright white light of the sun blinding her blue eyes. Seriously? She thought as she waited at the stop sign that continued the road leading into nowhere. Someone is behind me now? She glanced in her rear-view mirror and was struck with awe as her adrenaline spiked.Outlined in the mirror was a car, but not any car. Its sleek black body and golden eagle emblazoned on the hood was a telltale sign of one of the most classic cars of the past decades.
It was the first day of the rest of her life. She had gotten herself a job tree planting for the summer. Chasing after that dreamy aesthetic of the hippy movement, she had applied to this job, despite the naysayers who had been telling her the work was too hard, the days were too long, and the sun was too hot. No, to her this would be the most wonderful summer of her life. She imagined herself, filthy and covered in sweat from a long day’s work, not bothering to wash, beca...
It's the same as it is every other day. Wake up, get dressed, eat, show up at work, go home, maybe eat, sometimes alone, sometimes with my cat, sleep, then repeat. A boring routine for a boring girl. Then something changed. He came. I didn't notice him at first, no, I noticed him when no one else did. It all started when I went through the same morning routine. I woke up, fed my cat, Roscoe, ate some stale toast and headed off to work, expecting the same old boring day to unfold. Little did I know that I was in for a shock. As...
Trigger Warning: This story depicts strong language and self induced suffering. She sits in a stupor, her hand dangling limp from her position on the sofa. She looks lifeless, the Vodka bottle lying empty on the floor, with a pack of cigarettes, already used and discarded. A snore permeates the room from her flaring nostrils and half open mouth – the only sign that she is still alive. It is not a pretty sight, especially now that she doesn’t have all the recommendations of youth to benefit from. She had once b...
Love at first sight does exist. I know, because it happened to me. This is the true story of how I met my wife. It was late June of 1987. I was enjoying the summer between my junior and senior years of high school. The day started out normally enough. I went to my job at the golf course, where I worked as a landscaper. I worked from 5 am until about noon, cutting grass. I then went home, ate lunch, and then went to the gym. I trained for about an hour or so, then went to get something t...
