"He wasn't thinking." Fawn said.
"Well, of course he wasn't." I replied.
"Ugh, Kennie, he still likes you." Fawn complained.
"Well… then… he's got to apologise properly or something, oh- I know. He's got to make me smile." I said, pleased with my decision.
"Oh yes." I grinned with satisfaction.
Anyone who knew me well enough, knew that if I was mad at you, you just had to make me smile or laugh. But that's going to be quite hard, why? Because, if I don't want to laugh, I definitely won't. I had been thinking about Flint a lot. I really didn't want to. So, new approach! He does not exist to me! Ugh, that's a little mean, even for me.
"Oh, Kennie, that's evil!"
"So am I." I said with a wink.
"So! The squad's back again, huh?" Finn said.
"Yup! Amare, what were you in the play?" Celeste asked giggling.
"Seriously, Cel? Ugh, I was grass." Amare sighed as chuckles rose.
"By the way, why is Saylis's nicknames Lis?" Luke asked.
"Oh, uh- we had a new maths teacher, in grade school who was obsessed with the French humans and tried to incorporate their accent. So, Saylis became Say Less for her. She originally thought that Say was her first name and Less, her last." Finn chuckled.
Conversations arised. I didn't hear them. Voices muffled. Thoughts spiraled. Someone is watching us. I can feel it. But I'm more worried about the prophecy. It's completely right. I'm scared. It is right. But an even more worried fact is… why haven't our parents come looking for us? Many of us here, don't have parents, but the ones who do, like me, and Saylis, and maybe Clarice; why haven't they come looking? Has someone taken them? Have they been brainwashed or something?-
"Hey- I've been wondering about that too. But them being brainwashed? That's a little far-stretched Kenna." Saylis whispers.
Ugh. You're right. I'm sorry.
"Kenna? Saylis?" A voice asked, snapping me back to the present. Finn.
"Nothing, you uh- zoned out," Finn asked, looking concerned.
"Hey, uh- I'll catch up with you all later, I'm uh- going on a walk." Finn said.
"Kenna, you wanna come?"
I slip on my sneakers as he puts on his. I remember that we customised these shoes for each other on a sleepover. Me and Lis did his, and vice versa.
"Kay, let's go. Bye." I say to the group as they wave.
We open the door and step outside. It's beautiful. But, surprisingly, we don't hear any birds chirping. Which is quite weird, considering we're in the middle of the Bakayan Forest. We walk two steps ahead, and suddenly I'm thrown back. So is Finn.
A white flash, then all turns black.
"Kenna? Kennie?" I hear Celeste's voice. I open my eyes to see her, Danny, Aerin, Clarice, and Kuro peering down at me.
"You guys. Where's Lis? IS FINN OKAY?" I jerk ahead, realising I shouldn't have done that, as I feel a stab in my lungs.
"Finn's gonna be okay." Celeste assures me.
"So, what happened?"
"Ugh, someone put a forcefield there. Nothing can go out, or come in. It's super complex. Even my light can't defy it. Not even sound." Danny explains.
"We have been testing stuff on it for the past four hours. Nothing." Celeste explains.
"Even I tried going with different hybrid animals on it. Nothing works." Aerin sighed.
"Me too. Given our talent, it should have worked, but whoever made the field must be stronger than us. Very strong." Kuro explained, her white and black eyes blinking.
"Perfect. Where's Fli- Fawn and the others?" I ask as Celeste smirks.
"They are trying more experiments, but Flint decided to stay." Kuro explains.
"Oh. Where is he?" I ask.
They move aside to reveal a Clown Flint.
"Hello Milady!" He says with the cocktail accent and arm gesture.
"Good try," I say, as he looks dejected, but determined. Kuro whispers something in his ear as he lightens up and runs outside.
"You should rest. Should I call Lis here?" Aerin asks.
"No, that's okay" I say.
"Here's some medicine, Fawn and Tania prepared; it should make your leg better." Danny says, handing me a sickly sweet syrup. I gulp it down and gag.
"What's wrong with my leg?" I say looking down.
"Oh- uh you broke it. For real this time." Aerin says smirking.
"Yup! But uh- don't worry, you'll be okay in a while."
"Kenna?" Kuro asks.
"Here, take some water." It's sparkly.
I drink it. It tastes... familiar.
"Star Water?" I gasp.
"Yes, me and Danny combined our knowledge to create some. It's not the same, but it's near," Kuro explains.
"Oh- thank you!" I gleam. Star Water is a special type of water, which drips down from the stars on the first day of Amethyst Season. It's a week where all the stars leak out special water for us elves containing blessings, magic, happiness, etc.
Kuro smiles and leaves me alone with my thoughts.
I recall the prophecy.
With pitch, bright and hollow vows
The tar and black no one allows
The bland and white does envelope
the cadence of a weakened trope
That probably means vows were made, and that the Dark Side shouldn't have existed at all. An envelope? We received our notes in an envelope! The cadence of a weakened trope. Maybe old legends?
A great distrust
A sunken dust
Reveals the sight below
And from the mist
A gold mine missed
Not neutral gray or snow.
The government's secrecy. A hidden secret. Reveals the sight below…? The Dark Side? From the mist… once everything is clear something overlooked will appear I guess. I should ask Luke about this.
The secrets all will show without
The people that no longer tout
A sallow, cold, unknowing day
When all clarity stayed away
Secrets citizens don't know…
The friends nine
Of a great long line
Of parents fighting for tomorrow
And rip the guise
Of simple tricks and sorrow
Friends nine? Us? But we're 13. Weird. Children will rip off the guise? Are we supposed to discover something? A simple tricks? Of the government?
The letter revealed
the pathway shown
The truth will come
The nation grown
A letter revealed. A path shown, we'll find the truth as the nation grows?
I think I deciphered it. I'll tell the others at breakfast. I doze off.
"Kenn- ohh she's sleeping." I hear a voice.
Someone bends down and I feel soft lips touching my cheeks as they put a strand of hair behind my ear. They rub my hand.
"I'm sorry Ken. It'll be okay. It's gonna be okay." He says.
He places his hand atop mine, squeezes it and walks away.
"Wait-" I suddenly say.
Flint turns around, eyes wide open.
"I-I didn't mean to wake you up! I'm sorry, should I get you something water? Here you go, Star Water, your favourite, right?" He panics.
"Aw, Flint, it's okay. I- t-thank you." I gesture at him to come over. I try to sit up as I wail.
"Stop, you'll hurt yourself," He rushes over and slowly holds me and puts me up straight against my pillow.
"There you go." He whispers.
I pull him closer, hugging him tightly. He hugs me tighter. I feel tears running down my face as I rest my head on his shoulder.
"It's gonna be okay." He whispers, as lie down again.
"SERIOUSLY!" Finn sits up on his bed.
"Afghalad! Oh- my heavens Finn!" I say startled. I so hope he didn't see that. Ohh gosh.
"That was hilarious. It was like a movie script, ya know! But I so wish I hadn't seen that. Memory wipe me?" He asks grinning.
"Seriously?" I say blushing, and annoyed.
"But, hey- you finally had your first kiss!" He says guwaffing.
"WHAT HAPPENED?" Lis rushes through.
"KENNIE! FINNY!" She squeals.
"Sooooo WHAT'S UP? Don't lie, tell me what happened!" She squeals louder.
"Uh- what? Nothing happened." I lie giving the death stare to Finn as he bites his finger to keep him from laughing.
"Oh COME ON! Something happened! I know it! Flint came in, and walked out blushing, and so are you! But don't worry, if you don't tell me I can ask Fawn, and if she can't get it out of Flint, then I'll ask Danny. You won't believe her Mom Stare. She gave me one when I wouldn't finish my plate, and that girl- she is terrifying, I tell you." Rants Lis.
"SHE HAD HER FIRST KISS!" Finn bursts out as I glare at him, accidentally freezing his mouth shut.
"KENNIEEEEE OHMYLORDDDD AWWWW THAT'S SO SWEEET OHHHH HOW DIDN'T YOU TELL MEEEEE AHHHHH I NEED A PHOTO OF THIS!!! I WILL REMEBER THIS THE REST OF MY LIFEE EEEEEEEEK" Lis squealed like a kid who just won free ice cream for life.
"What happened??" Celeste rushed in with Luke, Aerin and Kuro behind her.
"Oh! Absolutely nothing, haha, we were talking about school." Lis says, surprisingly keeping all the bubbling excitement down.
"Oh. Okay." They all walk out.
"Wait! Uh- Kenna, could you unfreeze Finn's lips? I'm pretty sure it's not good for him," Celeste says meekly.
"Oh! Uh- of course." I say unfreezing his lips, leaving them blue-ish.
"Looks like someone got a crush on you!" I say nudging Finn.
"Eh- whatever." He says rolling his eyes.
"Hey- Kenna, we need you outside, uh- something with the prophecy." Flint comes in his cheeks blushing profusely.
"Uh- of course." I say getting up, only to realize I can't walk.
"You just kissed my best friend young man, so be a gentleman and pick her up and leave her on the extra fluffy couch in the Hall, and you better not drop her." Commands Saylis.
"Uh- of course Ma'a- uh- Lis." He says, again blushing.
"Ready Ken?" He asks as I nod.
"SERIOUSLY!?" Finn flops back on his bed, his face under the covers.
Saylis laughs. "I'll stay here for company." She says grinning at him.
I smirk at the two, leaving them alone. I look up to Flint and smile.
"Don't make me blush! I'll drop you!" Says Flint chuckling.
Well, he made me smile.
