It was… rather small.
"Hey- it's the middle of the night for Gale's sake, and I'm sleepy. Could we figure this out later?" Clarice suggested.
"Yeah, you mean, leaving my best friend, with shadow poisoning which someone caused- oh WAIT! That you, caused. Sure, let's go into endless oblivion for eight hours!" I snapped.
"Calm." Someone said; I think it was Fawn.
I felt a green breeze in my head, rustling leaves, dew on trees.
Then it went.
And I was stuck with an unconscious shadow bff, in the middle of the forest; perfect way to spend your high-school vacations, sis!
"Hello? Anybody in there?" Finn knocked on my forehead.
"Ow, yeah." I replied.
"Okay, so it's final, we sleep for some time, one will keep watch, and we decide what to do next in the morning." Flint stated, looking at me, surprisingly for approval. Well that's new.
"Yeah," I nodded.
We entered the countryside House. The main door was slightly ajar. This felt like the plot of some lame horror movie.
"Okay, uh- Tania and Fawn, mind locking the door with some strong, sturdy plant thing? Thanks." I say, as they nod and call some spikey plant.
As I enter the house it looks sweet, and cozy like the house from Goldilocks. Nice. They're were two staircases, divided down the middle, one was for boys and one was for girls, we separated and were halfway through the stairs when we heard a noise, from the girls side.
Flint rushed up the stairs but Fawn created a cactus wall in front of him and said "I can do this Flint. Stop babying me!"
Flint sighed and backed off.
"Seriously, HURRY UP, MY LEVITATION CAN’T HANDLE SAYLIN SO LONG" Finn wailed.
Celeste rushed up "Here, I'll help you."
"Thanks." Finn said, looking worried.
"Ugh, seriously? Move aside I'll see what's wrong. Y'all can't do anything." Clarice sighed and walked up.
She walked ahead, and opened the door.
Then, she screamed.
Two other voices screamt too.
"WHO ARE YOU ALL? I'M A POWERAL!" Said a girl. Blonde-ish hair, soft freckles, she looked beautiful.
"Who the leaf are y'all? And why are y'all carrying a BODY?" Said a boy. He had brown hair, like- the wavy type and gold eyes, like Finn's, but lighter.
"Woah… um I'm Kenna, these are my friends, Fawn, Tania, Finn, Flint, Clarice, Amare, and Celeste. We're all powerals." I said with a smile.
"Oh- and the body is Saylin." I added, cringing.
"I'm Luke, and this is Aerin. They're two others, but they've gone out, to get sticks for the fire." He said.
"Um, okay. We were sent here, we- uh… got a note..? Did you get one?" Finn tried.
"Yeah, we did. Welcome, to… this place, I guess. Ugh, I'm sorry, it's the middle of the night, and I don't talk well if you jolt me up from my sleep saying that they're nine powerals at the door." He said.
"Uhh, yeah.." Fawn said.
"I'm going to my room, on the boy's side, girls, on that side, G'night y'all." He said, through yawns.
"Um… what he said." Said Aerin, grinning sheepishly at us. "Good Night!" She says, as she disappears.
"Could we come to your side for a while?" Flint asks, gesturing to the boys.
"Oh- of course!" I say smiling.
There was a hall kind of thing, two separate rooms, and one hall, where 9-10 beds are placed.
"Cool." Flint says.
I flopped down to the center-most bed, "Middle's mine!" I say.
"I'll take the separate one." Says Clarice, announcing.
I look around. It's quite beautiful. Pastel blue all, with zentangle art on one side, and a bird with paint strokes on the other.
"Mind if I sit here?" Flint says his eyes twinkling like the moonlight, I can see stars in his eyes. Realising I have to actually answer him, I say.
"O-of course." I grin.
"So. Guys?" He says.
"I'll be there! One second! Fawn is trying something! I'm checking Saylin's emotions, and the others are helping! We don't really need ice and fire right now!" Finn yelled.
"Talk about being insensitive." Flint grins and chuckles.
What a wonderful sound his laugh was. Wait- what? I'm not actually liking my childhood best friend's brother? Oh wait I am. Maybe I should ask Finn? I should. He'd know.
"So… um, are you still with Eric?" He asks, twisting his fingers.
"Ha! Eric? No, haha, we broke up a couple months back." I said nervously laughing.
Why is he asking about my ex? Ha, he probably thinks of me as a replacement for Fawn while she's working.
"Oh. Uh- why? I-i mean, I don't wanna intrude privacy or anything but, um, why? I mean, your a- a good person." He is quite nervous.
"Thanks. He said that I stood up for myself too much, and it's not 'classy'. Sooo, I broke up with him." I said, shrugging.
"That's good." He said smiling.
"We're here! We stabilised Lis for the night. So, what were you saying, Flint? And, why are you two so close?" Finn said with a raised eyebrow smirk.
"Yeah, Flint, why are you two so close?" Fawn said grinning whilst Celeste burst out laughing.
"Yeah, Kenna, why?" Amare asked, looking annoyed.
"Uh- we're not!" Me and Flint said simultaneously, worsening the situation.
"Let's let them laugh for a while." Flint said smiling.
"Yeah." I said grinning.
"Guys- there's too many shadows here, it's not safe for Lis, we have to call Clarice to clear them, but if they're too strong then we'll have to get out." Tania suddenly recited.
"Seriously?" Celeste asked, looking worried.
"Then call Clarice." Amare stated.
"I heard my name, Amare, did you need me?" Clarice bursts out of her room, in pajamas.
"Yeah, this house is covered in shadows, mind clearing them? It might cause Lis to relapse." Finn said.
"I didn't quite ask you, uh- Finn, but sure let me see what I can do." She said.
"Oh my! There are so many shadows. Here, I'll cleanse them, but they have to be stored somewhere, you can't just- get rid of them. That would require a Lightal. Which, I'm sure, none of us are. I'll be storing them in my room." She announced.
"So- as I was saying, the note says,
'We have our methods to get things done, but you must arrive at Ellis Square before the night is undone.
Disobey us if you may, but light and dark cannot stay.'
But, in my note, I got the riddle thing, but it also mentioned this address. As if it knew I was going to come. Plus, it also chose only Powerals, also most of us deal with elements, so elementals. But, then, it also, envious that light and dark cannot stay, so is the note referring to The Light Side and The Dark Side? I think, yes. But, it also says, that they have their 'methods to get things done' so this can't mean one person, are you all understanding what I'm trying to say?" Flint asked.
"Cool rant there, but I don't think anyone understood that, Flint, smooth it put a little?" Amare said.
"So you're saying that a group of people left these notes who apparently want to take over both sides and the government and they require elementals and powerals for it?" Fawn recited.
"Something like that, yes." Flint sighed.
"Ooookay. Great info break there, but- can we save this for tomorrow? It's like 2 in the morning!" Celeste whined.
"Yeah, let's get some rest today. We'll see what to do tomorrow." I said.
"Fawn and Tania, you both are going to sleep beside Lis tonight, yeah?" I said.
"Yeah, sure." Tania said.
"Okay, good night y'all." Said Flint.
"Night." Said Amare.
"Good Night." We all said.
"I'm staying." Said Finn.
"Finny, no, it's late night and I don't want you being sick, go, sleep." I said.
"But I have to monitor Lis's emotions. She can sense who's around she felt anxious when Amare entered the room, given, you know- that he's her ex." Said Finn.
"Ugh. You're too caring Finn." I said pulling him into a hug.
"I know, that's the problem," he said sighing.
I didn't want to let go. He was too caring. His broad shoulders supported my head, his blonde hair smelling like lavender. He's like a brother to me. The one which I never had. He also didn't want to let go, he ruffled my hair.
"G'night Kennie." He said.
"Wait." I said.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"Could you check my emotions once? And tell me what I'm feeling?" I asked, cringing.
"Ooh, you got a boyfriend, huh?" He said winking as I pushed him blushing.
"Gimme a sec. Uuuuhhhhh….. you're feeling fluttery, ya know? Like a crush?" He said, smirking.
"Ugh, you know me too well. It's Flint." I said, shrugging.
I felt relieved as if a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.
"I knew it. He's hard to get, with Fawn and all. Ha, good luck Kennie." He said, winking. He sat down, his eyes closed and started monitoring Lis's emotions.
"Night." I said.
I flopped down on my bed. I turned. I could see the stars from my window. I didn't know what I was going to do. But I did know I was going to do it with these crackheads. I closed my eyes. It had been a few minutes when I heard a tap on my arm.
"Kennie?" I heard a warm voice.
"Finn? Is Lis okay?" I said, sitting up, when I realised it was not Finn.
"No, it's Flint." He said.
"Kennie? That's sweet." I said, smiling. "Wait- what are you doing up?" I asked, confused.
"Um, well- I was watching the stars when Aerin knocked on my door, and she said I should call you too, she seemed scared and I wasn't sure how to handle this." He said.
"Staring at the stars, huh? Me too. Wait- Aerin?" I walked out.
"Uh, hi Kenna. I was explaining the situation to Kuro and Danny when they came here when I heard a sound, it was early morning so I went to investigate, Kuro and Danny are asleep now, I’ll introduce y'all tomorrow. I heard a sound from- uh, Clarice's room. She was talking to someone. I'm not sure she's safe." Aerin said, twirling her hair around her finger.
"Soo.. that." Said Flint looking at me.
"Well, let's investigate," I said, rushing them to her bedroom.
The three of us put our ears to the door and stayed quiet. After a few seconds we heard her.
"No! I don't care. Do what you have to do. Don't lose control. These powerals and elementals are very powerful- good for us, they don't know that, and think of themselves as characters from some short-story series who have depressing backgrounds who'll come together to save the world." She said.
We backed away from the door.
"She's obviously bad news. But we can't tell anyone yet, they might panic. She mustn't know we're onto her. And we can't expose this until Saylin is healthy." Aerin stated, looking determined.
"She's right. We'll have to keep this a secret." I decided, Flint nodding.
"Okay, good night." Flint said walking away, as Aerin went to her room.
"Oh- and, um, I'm really sorry about waking you up, Kenna." Flint said sinking.
"Oh no; it's fine! Actually- thank you! If you hadn't woken me, I'd have not known about this." I said grinning.
He grinned and walked away.
I sunk onto my bed sighing, as I was swept away into endless oblivion, dreaming of cute boys named Flint and candy
