The summary of my novel:
16-year-old Julianna Cult didn't know what she was getting into when she fled to Maine after finding out her mother and stepfather decided to move to a new country without her consent.
She took the step forward in life to go from paradise and warm kissed sands of Florida to freezing and barren lands of Maine to live with a father who she has never met in years.
Upon arrival, she misses her home but soon after making friends she feels at home.
Life again seemed regular until she encounters the secret in the woods near the house.
Her life seemed at stake every day as she befriends a creature that could kill her in seconds...
My life was never interesting, just a life of a regular teenage girl. I always dreamed of living the life of a fantasy wonderland but that never happened until I departed my hometown of sunny-side state Florida and moved to freezing Maine.
My whole life felt like a waste of time as I glanced at his eyes. A spark of aspiration kept me near him, we were different species. Yet, I felt a connection between us. He was the one I was looking for, we were destined to cross paths or else I wouldn’t have even dreamed of travelling hundreds of miles away to come to an unknown and remote location.
I began to discover things that seemed untrue. I began to hear his voice even if he couldn’t speak. It was like my life had a purpose, like I wasn’t ordinary at all.
Maybe life does have surprises waiting in every corner.
It was like a miracle.
But we weren’t supposed to be friends, she was in danger every second she spent time with me.
I feared she’d get hurt because of me.
I can’t let another person who I love die.
One of my first writing/ sneak peek : ( Its really terrible which is why I didn't continue but I wanted to share it anyway)
I was so tired of hearing, "Why don’t you be more like your sister, she’s so responsible.” Everybody loved my sister, like one time when we went out for dinner and she helped an old woman who dropped her change and the lady gave her a dollar as a reward. It's not like she’s bad but when I want to help she goes before me and helps. She gets all the credit. My sister never makes a single mistake, she gets straight A+ in all her classes and she does not talk when someone else is talking. My sister is like Mrs. Perfect and I bet she would win medals and trophies when she grows up. I’m Madison by the way and my pitch perfect sister is my twin sis Madeline. Just because we were twins, a lot of people assume we would be alike but that's not the case here since we don't have much in common except our big green eyes. I have brown hair and I am a few inches shorter than Madeline. My sister on the other hand is a blondie and she loves to be fashionable but I am not really into the fashion trend. My family is pretty big so I feel left out sometimes. I have no brothers, only sisters. Sometimes I wish I had a brother but that's life. My oldest sister is Sandra who is 16 also has brown hair that is mostly grumpy because she’s a teen and teens are always like. Then it's Madeline because she's the oldest twin by a minute and then it's me and we are both 12 about to be 13 soon but then we have to act like Sandra. Then my little sister Abby who is 8 and she's a science weisz. She's always trying new experiments but once it turned into a disaster so my mom said no more experiments inside the house only outside. Finally it's my youngest sis, 2 year old Ruth who was named after my dad's mom aka my grandma who passed away the year Ruth was born. Sometimes I feel bad for my dad Daniel because he’s stuck with 6 ladies which includes my mom Ellen. My mom is the best but she is strict about one thing I wanted since I was about Ruth's age. Let me give you a hint, it has 4 legs, is furry and barks. You guessed it, it's a dog. I wanted a dog for a long time and every christmas and birthdays I hoped for one but no dog turned up but last christmas I saw a big box with holes all over it and it had a big red ribbon under our tree. I thought of why the present had holes then I remembered that I had seen a youtube video of a girl who got a present like mine and there was a puppy inside. I was so excited but I didn't show it on my face and when it was time to open presents I dived through all the other presents and got my hands over the box. I cut the ribbon with scissors and opened the box and to my surprise it was not a dog but a cat. I was upset but Madeline was not and she took the black and white cat out and started to play with it. My sis loved cats like I love dogs. She thanked my parents and went to play with the cat. That's how we got Milo, a british shorthair cat. We also have a scarlet macaw which is a breed of parrot who we named Rita. Rita was a rainbow color parrot and she was a gift to mom from my aunt who has a bunch of bizarre and unusual pets. I would give hints to my parents to get me a dog for christmas but they never bought a dog. Dad didn't have anything against dogs so he agreed when I asked him for a dog but he also said mom had to approve for a dog too! Mom would never agree for a dog and when I asked her the reason why she would say what every parent would say like how dogs are messy and they chew on things. But that's not what bothered mom when I said the word dog because I know mom had a dog when she was little so why is she not letting me have a dog when she spent her life with a furry canine. When I went to my grandparents house which is in Texas last summer I got the answer to my question. My grandma told me the story as I sat next to my grandpa. My sister’s Abby, Ruth and mom had gone to do shopping and dad was back at home since he had work to do and Madeline and Sandra went to go see a band that had come to play at the town square. Grandma brought chocolate chip cookies my fav as she told the story of mom's heroic dog Patch.
“When your mom was little she wanted a dog. One day me and your grandpa found a stray little dalmation puppy and we brought him home and your mom fell in love with him at first sight. They were like two peas in a pod.” grandma said as a tear rolled down her wrinkled cheek. Grandpa gave her a tissue and she wiped her eyes.
“So one day when your grandpa was at work and I was inside cleaning the house your mom was playing in our small front yard with Patch. Suddenly Patch stopped playing and he ran toward the street. I told your mom never to go near the street so she called out to Patch but he kept going so Ellen walked near the street calling out to him and that's when she noticed that a little girl was crying in the middle of the street. Patch helped the little girl across the other side of the street where the girl's mother was crying when she saw her daughter safe and sound. When Patch was coming back to your mother suddenly a big truck hit him and …” Grandma stopped and wiped her tears again. I was also getting sad and emotional too so I took out a tissue and wiped my tears too.
“What happened next grandma, was Patch...ok?” I asked eagerly.
Grandpa asked,”Maria do you want me to say the rest of the story? Grandma nodded and took a cookie and took a small bite.
“So when the truck hit poor Patches he fell down and was losing a lot of blood. Your mom ran to the street and held Patch and she was crying. Grandma saw what had happened through the kitchen window and ran toward the street. All the people near us came to see what had happened. People who were in cars came out to see what the commotion was all about. The lady and the little girl came too to thank your mom and her dog but was sorry for what happened to Patch. After that day your mom never forgot about Patch and when we tried to get another dog for your mom, she said that she did not want to any other dog since Patch was in her heart and that's why your mom doesn't want to get a dog for you since she does not want you to be heartbroken like what had happened to her.
“But... that doesn't mean it will happen to me?” I wondered.
I don’t know sugar plum but don't worry I have a feeling you might get a dog pretty soon.” said grandpa as he winked at me.
