(This story picks up where Hunter and Prey left off)
It was an hour later when Ana Lee was about to wash the refrigerators, the whole city began to shake.
Like everyone else, Ana Lee ran outside but she was more concerned than fearful. These buildings were old and anything might make them fall. Ana Lee lost her glasses as they were knocked off her face by a panicked townsman and was unable to get to them before they were crushed under another person's foot and she was rushed off with other people.
Explosions rocked the entire city and the people began to run. This city was in the middle of nowhere. This was just a mining town. Granted what were found were jewels of various types, but it was really a poor place otherwise. Many people had no means of going anywhere else. They couldn’t run far even if they wanted to. There were only the town, mountain, and the dust bowl.
Solider types came in on all four sides of the town with guns which was rare and the people were all rounded up into one large group.
In a circle the town’s folk waited, then someone the troops took orders from hopped up in the back of Drau’s old wagon. He fired a shot from a hand gun skyward and all suddenly looked his way. He was black haired and wore it in a ponytail. He also wore old military gear that the kids were told about by teachers and in stories and was tanned skin wise.
OK, Ana Lee thought, my dinner date was a marauder.
“Listen up”, he yelled, “This town and you people now belong to me! It took me awhile to find you folks out here! All I had to go on with my men was that it was a town in the middle of Timbuktu and here you are!
“My name is Malachite! You cooperate and mine those pretty stones for me for now on and we will get along just fine! If you oppose me, and there will be hell to pay! Either way, your mine is mine”, he turned to a general type; “Break them up like I told you!”
With those words, the guards on the group moved in and started pulling families a part.
As the elderly and the ladies and young children were herded toward the cart, a hand caught hers and she was pulled by the wrist to someone.
It was the guy she saw in the Bistro earlier in the evening that now referred to himself as Malachite. “Hello again, beautiful Ana Lee, we meet again. Sorry for leaving so abruptly earlier but you did confirm for me who you are. I am so happy to have finally found you, little kitten. I have been looking for you for a very long time.” He had an arm around her waist as he held her a moment and nuzzled her, breathing her in.
Ana Lee tried to ignore his scent as it was doing things to her again. Then she noticed people staring and the Larson’s daughter began to cry from the cart they were being loaded up on. “She has demon eyes”, she whined. Tabitha pulled the baby to her and started trying to comfort her. Everyone began to stare at her with convicting eyes because of what a little girl said and this guy was doing. Little whispers kicked up that she knew this was coming. She didn’t know a thing, but she doubted they would believe her at this point.
There goes the neighborhood was the thought that shot through her head. Usually this meant that it was time to move on, but these circumstances were new. Now she was being sectioned out by a good looking guy who claimed that he was searching for her. All it created was more questions.
Malachite looked directly into her eyes. “What a pretty set of eyes you have, Kitten.” He nuzzled her neck and at her shoulder there was suddenly a sharp pain before she saw his eyes again and they seemed to smile now. He also had a small amount of her blood on his lips. “Get the others out of here. Take this one to my tent outside town and guard her. She’s mine.” The Alpha of his tribe flung her back to two of his men. He whispered something to one of his agents and pointed at the kid briefly. Malachite then stood and watched them drag Ana Lee off, licking his lips. After she was on her way he went about some details of his own.
The two well-built men half carried her out of the town to a tent set up that was about a quarter of a mile outside town to the east. It goes to show that Malachite planned the attack. She saw a few things that made the hairs on the back of her neck rise but was not given the opportunity to absorb what she saw. She saw people clad scantly in the camp and half eaten animals all over and everyone here had black eyes too. Were they really human or just pretending?
They hauled her to the largest tent that was in the heart of the tent city and took her inside. They tied her to a metal pole that a third man brought in, took her boots, before leaving her there. The room was pretty basic, a cot bed, a table, map table, chairs, and a generator powered fridge with a few other amenities.
Ana Lee was not without her own cunning nature. She had her pocket knife in her back pocket. With some minor manipulation, she managed to get the knife and open it. She sawed through the restraints and untied herself. Afterwards she went to the back of the tent and slid out of it into the camp. She did not know why he bit her and she really didn’t want to know why at this point. This was beyond her normal stress levels and she was fighting the urge to black out again. Ana Lee had to get away from this place.
It was about an hour later when Malachite found his way back into camp. He wanted all business out of the way so there would be no interruptions with his girl. The King of the Tribe was looking forward to what was going to go on tonight. He sensed it when he nuzzled her and breathed her in that she was coming into her first heat. She was the perfect age for it and that little love bite he gave her before giving her to his men to bring back to camp for him already marked her as his chosen conquest. He felt as though he had an all new hunger surging in him. Tonight he was going to finish what he started and make her his mate, whether she liked the idea or not.
The Alpha male of his tribe went right to his tent, glimpsed inside expecting to see her waiting, and stepped back out with an annoyed smirk. He had told his men to guard her. I guess they thought if she had been living like a human that she wouldn’t be that much of an issue. No matter, it is a minor annoyance at best. She won’t escape me, not tonight.
The leader of this tribe breathed in the air around him. He already had her scent and his claiming bite mark would help him find her no matter where she was. When Malachite had her scent, his form shimmered and he seemed to vanish. In reality, his speed increased and he headed right for where she was.
Ana Lee was attempting to get out of the camp and just leave. She wanted no part of whatever it was that was here and since this crap happened and the accusatory eyes even from Tabitha, fuck’em all. They were not worth her concern or frustration. She had almost accomplished her goal, but then someone grabbed her at the right wrist that she carried her pocket knife open in and whipped her around. Before she realized it, she was pinned to a rock that was at the edge of camp by that wrist, and looking up at her captor. “Where did you come from?”
“Are you leaving me already, kitten; and here I had such a wonderful night planned for us.” Malachite was the one who had a hold of her and also used his body to pin her to the rock. With his free hand, he pulled the pocket knife out of her hand and glimpsed at it. “So this was how you did it, what a cunning little escape artist you are.” He tossed it over his shoulder. “You don’t need that anymore.”
His grip was so tight that Ana Lee knew that she would have a hand print on her wrist by the time he let her go. “That pocket knife is the last thing I have from my adopted father; Mike, Malachite, or whatever the hell you call yourself now. You also said you had been looking for me, why? You had me right there at the Bistro, you could have just grabbed me then. You didn’t have to tear the town up. They didn’t need you pulling this crap.” She tried to struggle a little to go with her pissed off state.
My, she is being a feisty little kitten. He nuzzled her as he breathed her in again, “You saw the way they looked at you when that accusation got thrown. A little baby begins to cry and says that you have demon eyes, and now they simply think you are garbage. You don’t need that, nor do you need them. Fuck them, Ana Lee, humans are a dime a dozen. Don’t waste your precious time on them. This includes any human you ever crossed paths with.” Malachite smiled what a fortunate night this was going to be? He was for certain that she was entering the second stage of her first heat and he knew that she caught his scent as well when he saw her eyes in the response to him so close. To finish what he started with the bite. She was well worth the wait.
She swallowed and she spoke out loud despite the intention of keeping it silent, “But I am human.” It came out as a squeak. When he breathed her in, she couldn’t help but breathe him in a little as well. His scent was masculine alright in a primal and sultry kind of way to her. It was alluring and arousing at the same time now. She did not get aroused normally so that alone was new to her not to mention the ache between her legs.
“No you’re not.” He shook his head at her a moment, licked her cheek, and laughed lightly. By the wrist he restrained her with; he pulled her forward as he knelt. She ended up draped across his broad shoulders as if she was a calf on a rancher’s shoulders. His right hand now controlled both wrists as her hands were small in his hand. His left arm was now wrapped around her legs, easily restraining them. Like this he turned and started carrying her back the way they came. “No, babe doll, you are just like me. The name is Malachite. I was told about you by your sire. It was very low of him to leave his new born cub among human cattle. It took me eighteen years to find you and now that I have, kitten, I don’t intend to ever let you go.”
