Snow Has Fallen
By: Jubilee Forbess
Outside the window
In peals and cascading white sheets,
Blanketing the world into a quiet peace.
Meaning winter is here at last
Spring comes after,
And fall is past.
Jump from your bed
Wrap the blankets round your shoulders
Put a hat upon your head.
Run towards the door.
Toss it open and
Run into the fresh snow
Crunching beneath your boots.
Breathe in the crisp winter air
Throw the wind your every care and
Go forwards, marching on and on.
Are you listening?
They land upon the ground like spiders made of ice,
Upon the road and ground.
Yes, yes, it is snowing
And it has snowed!
You are laughing and smiling
Everything is made new in the winter.
Things die and… come spring they
Are alive once more because
They have been reborn as vibrant as the sun
But stronger than they were.
You look down at your boots.
Stop all at once.
You turn behind you.
Frantic heartbeats hit your ribcage.
There are no footsteps behind you,
And yet you’ve been walking for a while.
Where are your impressions,
The sign that you’ve been there?
Like the flowers in the winter
You’ve just died in the snow too.
